Kota Tua Semarang

Explore in Kota Tua Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia

Semarang is the capital city of Central Java province, Indonesia. The city is located about 466 km east of Jakarta, or 312 km west of Surabaya. Semarang is bordered by Java Sea to the north, Demak regency in east, south of Semarang Regency, and Regency of Kendal in the west.

I can say that Semarang is a nice and calm city. Peoples are very friendly and welcome.  No rush, no riots and everything run quite slow and smoothly.  Of course if i compared with Jakarta. OK, leave it that way. Peoples liked it.

I ‘ve been here a couple of times . Last time here when I slipped out from the main task of the company gave me, to explore anyplace as long as I can.  So many work to do, so little time to have fun.

With two friends, we started heading to Kota Tua (Old City) where many people assumed it as a little Holland. Located  near from Stasiun Tawang (Train station)

We arrived there by taxi for about 15 minutes from central part of the city where we stayed.  We just walked around to look for old stuff, building, houses, etc.

Stasiun Tawang (Train Station)

Inside , it looked clean and maintained

Surround the Stasiun Tawang we can find an old houses, building builded in Dutch government Era at war period. Just walked down around for about 10-15 minutes.

Since i’ve been here for working, I didn’t bring much to capture, but only a standard lens.

Polder tawang
Polder is located in front of Stasiun Tawang. According to its function Polder Tawang is a system to protect the water overflow from outside the area of the dam controlling the water level inside the Old City. Polder system components consist of: levee, canal, collector, pump water and retention ponds.

Old Building surrounded

LAWANG SEWU ( Thousands door)

Not wasting any time left, we head on to central part of the city visiting Lawang Sewu. It is a building in Semarang, Central Java, which is the office of the Nederlands-Indische Maatschappij Spoorweg or NIS. Built in 1904 and completed in 1907. Located at the roundabout Tugu Muda formerly called Wilhelmina Plein.
This ancient buildings after independence used as offices of Djawatan Kereta Api Repoeblik Indonesia (DKARI) , or now PT Kereta Api Indonesia (or Indonesia Railway dept). In addition, once used as the Office of National Infrastructures for Regional Military Command (Kodam IV / Diponegoro) and Regional Office (Regional Office), Ministry of Communications of Central Java.
During the struggle of this building has its own historical record of events during a five-day battle in Semarang (October 14 to October 19 1945). This old building became the location of a great battle between youth AMKA or the Young Generation of Railway against Kempetai and Kidobutai, Japan.

Not a great shot. Cant wait to come back with more time and gear to explore deeper.
