Pinisi shipbuilding at Pantai Bira Timur

Pinisi is Indonesian traditional sailing ship. Built by ethnic Bugis-Makassar, residents in the Bulukumba, a regency of South Sulawesi and used for inter-island transportation.











Pinisi ships have been used in Indonesia since a few centuries ago, and believed already existed before the 1500s. Expertise to make the ships passed on from generation to generation.


















Nowadays, Pinisi equipped with motors.

Shipbuilding industry is located at Pantai Bira Timur (East Bira Beach) in Kabupaten Bulukumba (Bulukumba regency), South Sulawesi. Another location besides the famous Tana Beru.
This location is not far from the harbor of Bira.
