Tana Beru Land of Pinisi South Sulawesi

Tana Beru or sometimes called Tanah Beru is a village which is the industrial center of the Pinisi or Phinisi. Located in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. We visited this amazing place while returning to Makassar from Pantai Bira.

Many order came from local, regional  and even a lot of buyers from Europe.












Most of residents in Tana Beru earn a living as a boats or ship maker or become a fishermen.
This skill has been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years.












This old man had worked as a shipbuilder since he was in junior high school. He build Pinisi with 10-20 of his men.








We asked permission to enter into a ship being built.








It use engines and a simple but modern equipment.








they use spike made of wooden instead of steel










SUMMARY
a great culture in a great country.
